Munich resident and 3D modeller Marc Carreras is immersed in the world of German cars on a daily basis. When he’s not designing concepts for the likes of BMW and Audi, Marc is hard at work crafting classic automotive artwork for his hobby-turned-business, Remove Before. Though he can appreciate the fine details of many different cars, he adores any chance to feature the iconic P-cars sharing his name, with designs including "C4 RR 3R4", "Coupe Sport Leichtbau", and "On Safari" in addition to the many on his own store.
Marc stopped hunting for vintage car classifieds in order to answer a few questions:
How did your interest in cars start?
I have been interested in cars since I was a child. I used to collect and play with Micro Machines & Hot Wheels, Scalextric, and scale models all the time.
How does your interest show itself?
My everyday routine turns around the automotive world itself. I’ve been working in the car design industry as a 3D modeller for the last 7 years. Most of the cars I have been working for were concept designs so I haven’t had the chance to see any directly in the street, however I have worked on really cool projects in the last few years.
Besides my work, I started the Remove Before project in 2013 as a hobby to represent my favourite classics in illustrations, and it slowly became not just a hobby but also part of my work. I also love getting lost on the Internet looking for old classics on sale and second-hand cars. I can really spend hours doing that.
What was your first car?
The first car I was able to drive was a Honda Civic Sport that we had at home. I used it for about 6 years ‘till I finally bought my first car, a BMW Z4 Coupe. I was always dreaming of having one, I really love its proportions.
What's in your driveway, and what makes it special?
I recently changed my Z4 Coupe for a Porsche 911 997 from 2008. It’s my baby right now, and I really enjoy taking it for a ride on weekends when the weather allows it.
What is your dream car?
My dream car has always been a classic Porsche. As you can see in my illustrations Porsche is always there… I would love a 964 or a 993 Porsche 911
What do you do besides designing awesome shirts?
As I said, I work as a 3D Modeller in the Car Design Industry. Until now I have been working for BMW and Audi mainly, but I’ve also done some projects for Aston Martin, Rolls Royce, Seat and Qoros.
What are some of your non-car hobbies?
I love football. I’m a very big Barcelona fan and I still play football in an amateur football team as long as my legs allow me!
What have the funds from blipshift helped you accomplish?
I normally use funds from extra campaigns such as blipshift for personal privileges like travelling with my girlfriend or presents in general. I try to change destination every time I travel, but one of my favourite places to go is Southeast Asia.
What influences you as a designer?
I am very influenced by classics. Of course I stay current with what is new, but what captivates me are classic cars and motorbikes. The details on them are amazing. Each and every part of an old car or motorbike of the 70’s 80’s has been designed ‘till the last point. I really love that.
What's your favorite blipshift shirt?
It will be quite unfair to say, as it will be one of my own, but probably the ”C4 RR 3R4” Porsche 911 shirt.
Any advice for fellow artists? How did you find the process overall?
I would just say make what you like if you enjoy it, and find your own style!
Thanks Marc! You can find his many designs on the Remove Before website, and some excellent automotive photography on his Instagram.
