The Skinny
Modern cars are getting more bloated every day from creeping featuritis. Does adding lane change warning, automatic parallel parking systems or hybrid powertrains really make for a better driving vehicle? Or are they needlessly complex and heavy? If only someone could suggest a philosophy for more efficient and enjoyable dynamics... Oh, wait, someone did? Like over 50 years ago? Oh... Perhaps if we had heeded Colin Chapman, we would not need around-car video monitors just to park our 5,000lb behemoths when driving around the corner to pick up our venti soy caramel macchiatos. And we would be reminded again of the pleasures of driving a simple, light weight vehicle. Fine, perhaps it could use a roof. And maybe windows. You want heat or AC too? Ok, but where you draw that line is what defines you as an enthusiast. And we suggest it was crossed a long time ago.
